Pancho Vladigerov (1899-1978) is the most celebrated Bulgarian composer of all times. He was of Bulgarian and Jewish descent and spent two decades of his life in Germany. The lecture-recital focuses on the composer’s life and music and explores the contradictory and complex policy regarding “mischlinge” – people of mixed origin in Germany and its wayward ally Bulgaria during the Nazi era.

Pancho Vladigerov
Terziev also performs twelve of Vladigerov’s pieces and outlines the composer’s various influences and stylistic evolution. The event provides a great opportunity for those interested in discovering beautiful music by lesser-known composers and those interested in 20th-century history. Terziev’s performance of Vladigerov’s pieces was rated Four Stars by CBC’s Sound Advice and La Scena Musicale мagazine.
